Power electric ship's first turbine generator set delivery
Recently, General Dynamics Electric Shipping Company awarded Grumman a contract containing the entire design, manufacture, assembly, qualification and delivery of the first turbine generator set for the US Navy's “Ohio†alternative boat.
Turbine generators can meet all submarine propulsion and other power needs. The "Ohio" alternative boat is the first nuclear submarine to be propelled by the US Navy since 1974.
The "Ohio" alternative boat project plans to design and build 12 new ballistic missile submarines to replace the Navy's existing 14 "Ohio" class submarines. It is reported that the "Ohio" class submarine will be retired in 2027.
