China built 10 million electric car parking spaces in 10 years

Wang Da, general manager of Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co., Ltd., said on Thursday that China will soon launch a new policy, which plans to prepare at least 10 million parking spaces for electric vehicles by 2020.

At present, more than half of China’s oil consumption depends on imports. The Chinese government hopes to promote the use of alternative fuel vehicles.

At an industry news conference at the Detroit Auto Show, Wang Da revealed that the Chinese government is working out a plan that will soon be announced, which proposes that at least 10 million parking spaces for electric vehicles will be built in 10 years.

Another industry executive said that it is expected that the Chinese government will focus on pure electric vehicles instead of hybrid vehicles or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

Beiqi, Volkswagen, General Motors, and China Geely Automobile are all planning to enter the electric vehicle market. Some multinational car companies have announced timetables for producing electric vehicles in China.

Xinhua quoted Wan Gang, China’s science and technology minister, as saying in October last year that China’s electric vehicle production will reach 1 million vehicles by 2020.
