Mostly the pipes are made from cast steel. Sometime Welded Pipes are used.
Dredge pipe pieces may have different thicknesses, shapes and lengths, they are also provided with lifting lugs for easy handling. They supposed to have smooth surface for low frictions. In most cases the flanges are cast together with the pipe to provide a stronger connection between flange and pipe.
It is also very important that the entire dredge pipe pieces to follow the shape of the flow resulting in low frictions and to avoid vortexes.
The materials used to manufacture the dredge pipe pieces are both manganese alloy that provides high elongation and impact value or high chromium, nickel and molybdenum alloy that gives high yield, high tensile and very high hardness values.

In the past, the installation procedure of the exhaust side piping system of the main engine was: firstly, the pipe brackets were assembled one by one to the scavenging air box body, and then the pipe fittings were assembled one by one to the pipe brackets according to the drawing sequence. Four brackets and six pipe fittings are installed, and the crane is required to be transported back and forth 10 times. Each lifting assembly process requires the construction personnel to move back and forth on the scavenging air box, command and adjust the crane, determine the positioning size, and finally complete the assembly.
This construction method not only has a long assembly cycle and a long time for occupying crane resources, but also has potential safety hazards. To this end, the assembly technicians conduct on-site ground pre-installation feasibility analysis, prepare planning plans, refine the process division, and improve the piping assembly process. On-site guidance to the construction personnel, in accordance with the assembly process rules, after the line is positioned on the ground, the pipe bracket, pipe fittings and valve parts are accurately assembled and assembled one by one, and then hoisted. Not only greatly saves the crane resources, but also shortens the piping assembly cycle and effectively prevents the paint from being damaged due to bumping during the assembly process, ensuring the quality of the pipe fittings, and also reducing the installation of the large pipes on the cylinders one by one.
