Fumei is a leader in fine chemical technology

In Zhangjiang National High-tech Park in Shanghai, there are many world-famous companies settled in, and set up a regional headquarters and scientific research center here. On March 30th, the Asia-Pacific Regional Headquarters and Innovation Center of FMC Corporation, which has 130 years of development history, held a groundbreaking ceremony in Zhangjiang. On the development and future of FMC, the reporter interviewed Mr. Pierre Brondeau, chairman and chief executive officer of the company.

China is the cornerstone of FMC development

As a world-famous diversified chemical company, it supports the development of leading technology and a vast market. Pierre Bronto stated that FMC is a technology-based company, and innovation and technology promotion are the driving forces for its rapid development in the field of chemical materials.

Each year, FMC invests US$100 million in R&D expenditures for new technologies. In addition to the R&D center in Princeton, USA, it also has laboratories that provide professional technical support in many parts of the world, including six in Asia. FMC's three global operations departments, the Department of Agricultural Products, Biochemical Polymers, and Lithium Division have successively set up branch offices in China to develop food, biopharmaceutical, and lithium products. After the completion of the R&D center in Shanghai, it will become the most important R&D base for FMC outside the R&D center in Princeton.

Pierre Bronto told reporters that since entering China, FMC's business in China has grown very rapidly, with an average growth rate of more than 20%. In 2006, FMC established a research and development center specializing in food additives in Huxi. After that, it established a food additive factory in Guangzhou, a lithium chemical factory in Zhangjiagang, and a joint venture of Suzhou and Jiangsu Suhua Group to build a professional agricultural chemical company. China has now become an important cornerstone for the development of FMC. "We are full of confidence in the Chinese market. This is also our original intention to build the Asia Pacific regional headquarters and R&D center in Shanghai."

Based on new energy and renewable resources

Today's global attention to resources and energy issues is the focus of FMC development. At present, agricultural products account for about 60% of FMC's business in China, food and pharmaceutical additives account for 30%, and lithium batteries account for 10%. The technology, products, and services involved in its three major business units and manufacturing companies are extremely closely linked to resources and energy.

According to Pierre Bronto, raw materials for FMC's R&D and production of food and pharmaceutical additives are all natural, green, and renewable resources. Building R&D centers in China is also expected to gather R&D strengths and use its advantages to incorporate more renewable resources into its product chain.

In the global lithium chemicals market, FMC also maintains an absolute leading position. At the same time, the company also provides high-quality products and technical solutions for eight major application areas such as air treatment, construction, energy fine chemicals, glass and ceramics, greases and lubricants, polymers, and water treatment. Pierre Bronto stated that during the "12th Five-Year Plan" period, China has made new energy development a key project, and will vigorously develop electric vehicles, electric motorcycles and new energy in the future. China will use lithium more than other countries. Chemical achievements and lithium batteries are a great development opportunity for FMC.

Pierre Bronto has held important positions in internationally renowned chemical companies such as Dow Chemical and Rohm and Haas. Since joining FMC as the president and CEO last year, he has focused on the company's transformation and development and formulated a rapid growth strategy for China and Asia Pacific. Pierre Bronto showed reporters the development plan of FMC in China: First, to further expand FMC's products, and use the newly-built R&D center as a platform to develop resource-saving, green-safe new models with special application value for the Chinese market. product. The second is to use the Shanghai R&D Center as the base camp to promote cooperation with relevant universities and research institutes, and to convene excellent R&D personnel to join its team, to use collective wisdom to develop new products and promote the company's growth. The third is to enable new technologies and new products to better serve customers and serve the Asian market. The fourth is to abide by the concept of health, safety, and continuous creation of a better life. FMC fulfills its social responsibility of “feeding the world, protecting health, and providing convenience for life” to the benefit of mankind and society.

Looking to the future, Pierre Bronto is full of confidence: FMC's goal is to reach $5 billion in sales in 2015, especially in areas with rapid economic development.
