TBEA opens new era of UHV transmission technology

On June 21, the world's first ±1100 kV Changji-Guquan UHVDC power transmission project, the first transmitting end ±1100 kV converter transformer, was shipped at a ±1100 kV UHV production base in Xinjiang Changji Tebian Electrician.

Wang Jian, the chief engineer in charge of the project, said that the product shipped was 33 meters long, 12 meters wide, and 18.5 meters high. The capacity of a single unit was as high as 6075 KVA, which was 20% higher than the previous world record. At present, the other 13 products have entered all aspects of production, and will be shipped to the project site after being released. This will ensure that the project will be put into operation by the end of the year.

On May 26th, this ±1100 kV converter transformer was successfully tested and passed a one-time test, which opened a new era for the development of UHV transmission technology in the world.

Changji-Guoquan ±1100 kV UHVDC transmission project is the UHV power transmission project with the highest voltage level, the largest transmission capacity, the longest transmission distance and the most advanced technology level in the world. HVDC power transmission has the characteristics of strong line transmission capacity, low loss, no need for synchronous operation of the two side AC systems, and small loss caused to the grid when a fault occurs, and is suitable for long-distance point-to-point high power transmission. As the starting point of this UHV project, the core equipment of Changji Converter Station is a converter transformer.

In May 2016, the successful Changji-Guixun ±1100 kV UHVDC project Changji Station had all 14 high-end converters. In October 2017, the product production of the project was fully started.

Zhang Xin, secretary and chairman of the TBEA Party Committee, said that this project is the second UHV power transmission project implemented by the State to implement “Jiangdong Power Transmission”, which will promote the development of energy bases in Xinjiang, ensure the reliable supply of power in East China, and stimulate economic growth. It is of great significance to achieve green development.
