Automotive industry: Heavy trucks are expected to show signs of fatigue

Heavy truck product sales in line with expectations. In July, a total of 70,200 heavy truck products were sold, a year-on-year increase of 30.7% and a decrease of 25.2% from the previous quarter. The year-on-year basis of the low price and high price of the same period last year led to a year-on-year decline in the year-on-year growth of heavy-duty truck products in July, but the absolute amount of sales was still at a historically high level in the same period; from a month-on-month perspective, the heavy-card product chain growth rate was -51.1% from July to July 2009. Between 0%, the month-on-month rate of decline was in the normal range. Overall, July sales of heavy-duty trucks were in line with expectations. From January to July, the cumulative sales of heavy-duty truck products totaled 654,200, a year-on-year increase of 98.7%, which exceeded the 632,200 units in 2009.

The degree of demand for road freight heavy trucks is still better than civil engineering heavy trucks. Among the subdivided products, a total of 44,900 heavy-duty trucks and semitrailer tractors were sold in July, an increase of 36.3% year-on-year, and a 22.2% decrease from the previous quarter; sales of heavy-duty truck chassis were 2.53, a year-on-year increase of 21.9% and a 30.0% decrease from the previous quarter. The year-on-year and month-on-month growth of heavy-duty trucks and semi-trailer trucks in July was still better than that of heavy-duty trucks, indicating once again that the demand for road freight heavy-duty truck products still maintained a high degree of prosperity, while the demand for civil engineering heavy-duty trucks was seasonally weak. In July sales of heavy truck products, vehicle and semi-trailer trucks accounted for 64.0%, and chassis accounted for 36.0%. Sales of complete vehicles and semitrailer tractors continued to increase.

The high growth in sales of light truck products has been weak. In July, the sales volume of light trucks was 132,800, an increase of 18.1% year-on-year, and a decrease of 18.7% from the previous month. In July, the year-on-year growth rate of light truck products slowed down. From the month-on-month, the growth rate in July 2005-2009 was between -18.7% and -6.5%, and in July this year, the sales volume of light trucks fell compared with that in 2008. The highest historical value is the same. The high growth of light truck sales was weak in July. From January to July, a total of 1.172 million light truck products were sold, an increase of 38.3% year-on-year.
