From the perspective of the sales of the Federation of Travel Unions, the sales volume of narrow-minded passenger cars (salons of cars, SUVs, and MPVs, the same below) generated by Chinese-made foreign car brands in China in August 2010 totaled 599,000 units, an increase of 20.37% from August last year. The growth rate was slightly lower than the average growth rate of China's narrow passenger car by 21.1%.

Top Ten Brands: Volkswagen Adds 30% Toyota Negative Growth

In August, the top ten domestically produced foreign brands with the highest sales of narrow passenger cars were Volkswagen, Hyundai, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Buick, Chevrolet, Kia, Ford and Suzuki. Among them, the top three sales growth rates were the Chevrolet brand (up 32.29% year-on-year), the Volkswagen brand (up 30.15% year-on-year) and the Suzuki brand (up 24.9% year-on-year). The sales of modern brands ranked second, but its growth rate had fallen to less than 20%, and its sister brand Kia had only slightly increased by 20%.

The sales growth rate of the Japanese product brand also fell to 17.89%. The Dongfeng Nissan, whose sales growth rate reached 48% in 2009, only increased by 14.39% in August this year. On the other hand, the daily product brand cars (referred to as NV200 and Paladin) produced in Zhengzhou increased by 261.18%.

Although Dongfeng Honda still recorded a 20.47% growth, affected by the 0.4% drop in sales of Guangzhou Automobile Honda in August, the Honda brand's total sales in August only increased by 7.72%. The decline in sales of Guangzhou Automobile Honda was mainly due to sales of the main model Accord and Fit, which fell by 6.9% and 40.1% respectively.

Toyota is the lowest growth rate among Japanese brands - sales in August showed a negative growth of 0.01%. Toyota’s two major joint ventures in China have lower sales growth in August. FAW Toyota, in particular, was dragged down by 6.6% and 7.7%, respectively, of the sales of the main models Corolla and RAV4. The sales volume of the joint venture fell by 4.07%.

Domestic luxury car brand: Mercedes-Benz fastest growth

Among domestic luxury car brands, Audi's sales in August were even higher than those of domestic sales of BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo in China. In terms of sales growth, it also reached 47.06% in August, which is higher than that of BMW and Volvo.

In August, the highest growth rate in sales of all domestic and foreign brands was Mercedes-Benz, which was a 228.45% year-on-year increase. The main reason is that Fujian Daimler Automotive Industry Co., Ltd. has listed two new MPV vehicles this year – Viano and Wie, and Beijing Benz has launched an extended version of the new E-Class in June this year.
