What is an A-pillar?

In car magazines and car guides, we often see "A-pillars," "B-pillars," and "C-pillars." Among them, the A pillar refers to the pillar between the windshield and the left front door.

In fact, the A-pillars, B-pillars, and C-pillars of automobiles have their own different functions, but at the same time they have their own contradictions, such as the contradiction between the visual field and stiffness of the A-pillar, and the contradiction between the rigidity and convenience of the B-pillar.

Why does A column affect vision?

It may be that drivers will have a feeling that if the driver's perspective does not block the view, the wide feeling actually explains a comfort problem, but it seems to be a contradiction to the car designer. Under normal circumstances, when the driver passes through the line of sight at the A-pillar, the overlapping angle of the eyes is 5-6 degrees. If the angle is set according to the driver's comfort, the smaller the overlap angle, the better. The thinner the A-pillar, the better. In the eyes of the designer, it is necessary to have a balance problem. Obviously he has to ensure the high rigidity of the A-pillar to reduce the risk of safety. From this perspective, the smaller the A-pillar, the better.
